The first official picture of Eddie as Lili Elbe in “The Danish Girl” has been released which has us really excited about the project. The film is currently in production and is directed by Tom Hooper (“Les Misérables“) and is based on the David Ebershoff novel about Lili Elbe, an early 20th-century Danish artist who was born as a man named Einar Wegener and received one of the earliest sex-change operations. Earlier in the year, Eddie spoke to The Telegraph about the project:
“There’s extraordinary bravery and brilliant people that I’ve met, so I’m hoping it will be an interesting experience. There is an incredibly valid discussion for why a trans actress isn’t playing the part, because there are so many brilliant trans actresses, and I’m sure there are many who could play this part sensationally, But one of the complications is that nowadays you have hormones, and many trans women have taken hormones. But to start this part playing male you’d have to come off the hormones, so that has been a discussion as well. Because back in that period there weren’t hormones.”
And sticking to “The Danish Girl“, a lovely picture of Eddie on the set of the film with his “little fella“, the Oscar for Best Actor in a Leading Role was released this week which you can check out in our gallery! He seems to have jumped back into working straight after the Academy Awards as it has been announced he is lending his voice to the character of Ryan in the new Thomas the Tank Engine film which is to be released in the autumn.
“I grew up loving to watch Thomas and his pals getting caught up in unexpected and mischievous adventures. I jumped at the opportunity to get involved, and what fun it was. I have never voiced an animated character before, and I had a complete blast”.
