“The Danish Girl” Release Date

Exciting news as Focus Features have announced that “The Danish Girl” will be released in the US on Thanksgiving Weekend! The film will premiere in both New York and LA on Friday November 27th, 2015.

The film is directed by Tom Hooper and is based on David Ebershoff’s novel and narrates the exceptional love story of early 20th-century Danish artists Einar and Gerda Wegener whose marriage and work are cast into the unknown when Einar begins a groundbreaking journey to become one of the world’s first transgender women, Lili Elbe. As you probably know, Eddie stars as Einar/Lili and his co-star is the talented Alicia Vikander.

Focus Features’s CEO Peter Schlessel shared some words in regards to the release of the project.

“In the tradition of Focus’ history of epic and moving love stories, THE DANISH GIRL promises to be unforgettable. Tom Hooper is an extraordinary storyteller who always elicits beautiful performances from his actors. We are so pleased to be working with Eddie Redmayne again after our shared success with Working Title on The Theory of Everything.”

If you have never heard about him you don’t have to feel guilty. The Theory of everything is his very first important role. If you don’t understand how an Academy Awards could go to someone you’ve never heard about (and DiCaprio never got one), you must see his portray of Stephen Hawking.

Thirty-three years old, English, good and wealthy family, right studies, (Eton first and History of Art at Cambridge then), newlyweds with Hannah Bagshawe – antiquarian with whom he shares a nose not exactly perfect and to whom he pointed his finger to when he got the award saying “Hannah, I love you so much” – Edward John David Redmayne – called Eddie – stays to Hollywood business as Rania di Giordania stays to 7Eleven.

“The Danish Girl” First Official Picture

The first official picture of Eddie as Lili Elbe in “The Danish Girl” has been released which has us really excited about the project. The film is currently in production and is directed by Tom Hooper (“Les Misérables“) and is based on the David Ebershoff novel about Lili Elbe, an early 20th-century Danish artist who was born as a man named Einar Wegener and received one of the earliest sex-change operations. Earlier in the year, Eddie spoke to The Telegraph about the project:

“There’s extraordinary bravery and brilliant people that I’ve met, so I’m hoping it will be an interesting experience. There is an incredibly valid discussion for why a trans actress isn’t playing the part, because there are so many brilliant trans actresses, and I’m sure there are many who could play this part sensationally, But one of the complications is that nowadays you have hormones, and many trans women have taken hormones. But to start this part playing male you’d have to come off the hormones, so that has been a discussion as well. Because back in that period there weren’t hormones.”

And sticking to “The Danish Girl“, a lovely picture of Eddie on the set of the film with his “little fella“, the Oscar for Best Actor in a Leading Role was released this week which you can check out in our gallery! He seems to have jumped back into working straight after the Academy Awards as it has been announced he is lending his voice to the character of Ryan in the new Thomas the Tank Engine film which is to be released in the autumn.

“I grew up loving to watch Thomas and his pals getting caught up in unexpected and mischievous adventures. I jumped at the opportunity to get involved, and what fun it was. I have never voiced an animated character before, and I had a complete blast”.

87th Annual Academy Awards

Wow. What a night! I have updated the gallery with hundreds of pictures of Eddie attending the 87th Annual Academy Awards thanks to Jenny. He very adorably received his Best Actor in a leading role award from the incredibly talented Cate Blanchett. As he went on to dedicate the award to everyone in the world fighting ALS, he couldn’t quite believe when the word Oscar escaped his mouth. You can watch his endearing acceptance speech below!

Eddie is a patron of the Motor Neurone Disease Association in the UK which funds and promotes research to understand what causes MND (ALS and MND are different descriptions of the same disease), how to diagnose it and, most importantly, how to effectively treat it so that it no longer devastates lives. Make sure to visit their website to learn more about the disease and the work MNDA do.
